Apple introduced the first model of its series of phones knows as iPhones in 2007. Apple always adds features that make them ahead of time and stand out. More than 29 different variations of iPhones have been launched so far. iPhones also stand in the list of most sold single products in the world.

In this article, we will cover the key specifications of the major iPhone models.

iPhone Models

Below listed are all the major iPhone models and their key specifications, presented in chronological order.

The iPhone (2G)

(Introduced in 2007)

After all weeks and months of rumors and false news for the upcoming smartphone by Apple, Apple’s founder (CEO at that time) introduced the first-ever original iPhone. Unlike the models today, this iPhone wasn’t labeled by any serial number rather just called “The iPhone”.

After great success in the production and selling of Apple II and the Macintosh, Apple Computers, Inc. released its first smartphone.

Following the vision of Apple, it was a revolution at that time, covering features that were ahead of the time, for example, 16 GB storage (which was gigantic at that time). The only feature it lacked was connectivity to the 3G network.

iPhone 3G was the next iPhone in the legacy of releasing a new and better iPhone every year. One of the best things Apple updated in it as compared to the original iPhone was, connecting to the faster 3G network.

This was proof of Apple’s dedication to changing lives through technology. After all, Apple was successful in selling over a couple million of these devices, which indeed was a great success paving the path for the next iPhones.

The introduction of location services for the public added to its success.

With max storage of 32 GB paired with 256 MB memory at a reasonable price, iPhone 3GS was once again loved by the community. The reason for the increment in the memory was the App Store (that was introduced after iPhone 3G).

Innovation and dedication were what brought Apple to the top, the only flaw that was observed was too few modifications to the exterior.

Every time Apple releases a phone, people were forced to say it the “best phone”. Once again doubling the memory to a whopping 512 MB (a revolution at that time). Available in only black and white color, everything became better and better.

This was the first iPhone that came with an added personal assistant “Siri” which can help you with many tasks like adding an alarm or making a call. iPhone 4 came with a 5 Megapixels Rear camera and a much smaller 0.3 Megapixels Front Camera. Though much more has to come yet….

Unlike iPhone 5 (which had an A6 processor) iPhone 6 had a much faster and more efficient A8 processor, with a much smaller and ergonomic build, this can be used for medium-high graphs gaming without consuming much battery.

It had a touch ID and more Apple Pay was introduced which made this phone a 2-in-1 mobile wallet. It was a phone made to be loved by the public.

iPhone SE (1st Generation)

iPhone SE may be considered a cheaper version of the iPhone 6 and 6s. Although this phone was a great package at a reasonable price, its appreciation was forgotten as soon after the release of its successor (iPhone 7). Unlike iPhone 6 (which had 2906 mAh), iPhone SE had a weaker battery for the same screen size.

The middle button (commonly referred to as the “home button”) had a touch ID, so only you may unlock your phone. This was the first iPhone to introduce stylish matte back colors like rose gold and space gray.

SE simply stands for a special edition. A 2nd generation has also been released about 4 years later, which we will discuss later in this article,

Moreover, once you use this 3-D phone, there is no way of going back.

Apple eliminated the audio jack in its 2016 iPhone 7, which means that users would be only able to use Apple’s earbuds. This step became much controversial, and some users even discontinued using Apple in the future.

The A10 processor was simply a WOW!

As discussed above, the removal of the audio jack, infuriated many, but those who couldn’t exit Apple had well adapted to the non-audio jack phones by this time.

The glass and aluminum back design gave a special feeling when carried. This phone model was the starting of Apple’s legacy of great photography. With features like portrait lighting, white balance, and Slow-Mo, photography became absolute fun.

More features like the A11 Bionic chip and wireless charging in a $699 tag made a win-win situation. It was definitely a genuine improvement pushing all the controversies beside.
